Job Title:
College Sports Writer

Description:
Thank you for your interest in writing for On Campus Sports. Our mission is to provide an opportunity for college students to develop their craft so they are prepared to enter the workforce with relevant, authentic experience. We intend to offer internship opportunities in the following fields: journalism, photojournalism, IT, graphic design, Marketing/PR, and general business. On Campus Sports is a Web-based version of a college sports magazine that will initially cover all FBS schools as well as an additional 60 schools with competitive basketball programs. Our plan is to expand coverage to all Division I schools by the Fall of 2012. In addition to publishing engaging, high-interest articles covering all men's and women's sports, the site will offer many features such as game previews, power rankings, game picks, interactive chat sessions, fans section, and much more. To further support the universities we cover and to reinforce our commitment to their students and athletes, we will work with university personnel to either create new scholarships, or contribute to existing ones with a portion of the revenue generated by our sponsors and other advertisers. The majority of our writers will be college interns. We also want to provide an opportunity for students in other fields who can work behind the scenes under our direction. There will be an opportunity for student writers to develop into editors - and when positions become available, paid editorial positions will be offered to students or graduates who have written for us. We intend to promote On Campus Sports at a very grassroots level: meaning we will ask our interns to connect with their friends, and conduct promotional activities and events on behalf of OCS. We want every student, professor, athlete, coach, and A.D. to know who we are. Our vision is that by this time next year, On Campus Sports will be THE place for college students pursuing a career in journalism, and a viable option for students working in those other fields. Embracing our mission to become a place where college students can thrive, we will create author profiles to help promote each of our young writers, and it will be the utmost honor to know when our student writers become highly successful professional journalists, either with us or another media outlet in the future. On Campus Sports will exist for the benefit of college students across the country. If there is a role within the organization that can be filled by a student, then we will find a student to fill that position.

Applicants should be majoring in a field of communication.
Submit: resume, cover letter, indicating your interest, and be sure to include your school, year, major, journalism experience, and anything else you feel is relevant to your profile. Please attach one sample of your writing in MS Word format, preferably covering sports and indicate whether you are seeking college course credit through this program on eRecruiting. We will begin reviewing applications immediately.

Deadline date: December 31, 2011 @11:59pm
